The Game

You might think life is all about winning,
a sort of game
in which you’re a winner or loser; 
a jockstrap war
in which you compete, win or lose,  
then go home afterwards for a shower. 
This approach will never get you far!

As an American, you must always talk peace,
but support a succession of wars.
It’s a way to get rid of the young,
you can never trust,
preoccupied as they are with love.

No, the Congress is anxious to defend us
and, so, are happy to pile up weapons,
even if no war.
The plan is both simple and clear:
someone has to keep buying firearms,
if the NRA’s to buy Congress. 

Also, children must be educated to acceptance
and, thus, to war
as the only enabler of freedom.
You must, after all, die in war
to be a hero.
And for what?  For killing, course.

There is nothing more American
than to be a whore,
selling yourself to the government
for a shot at glory…
and, alas, as we know, war is gory. 

So I ask: 

Who could ask for more?
Or are there other options?
