Words

Yesterday,

apologizing for words was normal,
but not today.

Today, insults and swear words are common,
even expected
from the highest government officials.

So what has changed?

Self-respect? Respect for others?
It’s pro or con.

No room for understanding.
No give and take,
it’s my way or the road

and even then,
the roads and road maps
keep changing.

Nowhere a norm,
no constant we can count on:
it’s no and no, then maybe yes again.

No true. No false. Happenstance,
how someone’s feeling.
It’s up to chance and chance is for me too chancy.

To put it bluntly: there is no North, no South,
no East, no West.

In short, no firm directions.

No sun, no moon…and only stars to guide us,
not in the sky, however.
Movie stars and empty minds.

No God to help us.
