Belief
Belief is not the question:
unnecessary to prove the sun,
the moon or stars in the heavens
that move around.
We don’t question what we see,
but may disbelieve in love,
reject the “feelings” of our senses:
too cold, not hot enough!
Still base our responses on experience.
We know we all grow old,
thus, have no need
to explain or justify aging.
What is not so plain
is why the label “false” is applied
to what reason cannot explain,
yet, can be felt.
“Attraction” is the ingredient
on which life demands
and on which
human continuance depends:
we call it love.
Faith doesn’t seek explanations,
does not dismiss
the facts of infatuation
or unbridled lust.
But love
in critical of applications
is best called trust.
