Giving
The giving of the self requires feeding,
implicating others.
No giver long can exist if left alone.
A gift should not impose a debt,
the receiver’s option:
to thank or say goodbye.
So try. Try being in yourself a crowd.
Try talking to yourself out loud.
Laugh at your jokes.
When eventually you become bored,
give away a hoard
of whatever it is you have left
until what’s left is nothing;
then start to laugh
and laugh and laugh until you cry.
Cry until you can cry no more.
Understand you are finally empty,
have no need to hoard.
Now you will find that giving is easy.
You have never had so many friends
who are ethically known as ends.
