Nature

If I can just look at nature
in my own backyard,
I can keep a hopeful disposition
towards the world at large,

but leave me with TV and news
and my mood heads south
and I don’t mean
to the Carolinas.

Daily news requires relief
not just now and then,
but on a daily basis 

morning, noon and night,

if sleep is to be a possibility.
It’s a dog eat world
in which humans 
are the ones being eaten.

Most dogs are pets,
but there’s plenty of life on the streets
that are not well kept,
but are left to simply wander.

It’s a dog eat world,
and but it’s humans 
who are being eaten:
men, women, and children. and women.
