This Dream of Jacob, Cain and Man

As he wrestled with Jacob, what were God’s thoughts?
Did human strength quell the angel’s arm?
Did human courage cool the angel’s brow?

Was this not Cain grasping for God’s love?
And what about Esau, acting Abel’s part?
Does it mean God loves only tricksters?

When the angel crippled Jacob’s thigh,
was that as punishment recognized
or simply seen as acknowledgment of rights?

What are we observing: the bias of love?
Or simply the costs of recognition?

Or had, in fact, God lost?
Must man forever wander in Nod?
In addition, wander crippled?
Are these, in effect, God’s blessings
that are tied to love?

And what has God lost as an observer?
How has God been hurt?
The question has been answered by Jesus:
“This very day!”
