Youth and Crucifixion

A boy,
running nude on a Cyprian shore,
hurries home
with the shell that has sliced his knee
held tight in a sunburned hand,
while in the water
a reflection follows.

An eagle,
motionless in the sky,
tilts wings to examine
a reddish tinge
that in shallows lies
above a floor
made of pure white sand.

On the beach,
a woman reaches out
to the running boy
who is still being watched
from the sky.
Her hair slips out from her blowing scarf
as she reaches out
with both hands.
