Doors

Finality is no friend to decision.

I like best doors
that perpetually hang just ajar,
that a cat can swing
or the wind slam shut
in the night
when windows are open wide.

There should never be a lock put on doors.
If there’s expression
to locks
and to doors without swing,
I would say depression
and hours of unrelieved sleep
are the signs to watch.

Doors are meant to be hinged,
tinged with exit.
Unlike a wall,
doors are never quite sure,
not explicit,
can be made to swing
by the youngest the furthest
without thought.

It's the nearest thing to forgiveness
and perhaps to love
to leave the screen door
unhooked
and the latch left open.
