Painted Skimmer (Dragonfly)

It poised on the tip of a stake,
horizontal,
and glowed like a jewel in the sun.

I used a spotting scope to see it,
it was so small,
but ferocious it was as a tiger.

More than once it leaped  
and, almost immediately, sat down.

What it snatched from air
was too small for my eyes to see,
but its jaws were working.
