So Much For This Beautiful World
Brooks laugh, wind sings, leaves dance
and we don't even notice,
except by chance
when something accidental happens.
Then we may glance,
but, otherwise, get on with our lives
who without pause.
pave over the earth with asphalt.
We drive each day to work
park cars, get out,
make sure to lock the doors,
do not look up,
even though clouds in the west
are blushing pink,
possibly embarrassed,
having been caught
displaying a beautiful sunrise.
But no one stops.
Nobody looks up from the sidewalk.
Nobody smiles.
