Garden Treasure

I'm not in love with this tree,
a crooked pine
named by someone a "Charlie Brown Christmas."

But it was free and I did feel pity.

So I've dug a hole as prescribed
three times in size
the container that held this prize

and will close the hole
with topsoil and dirt and manure
leaving roots raised up
a bit higher
than the unfilled ground.

As instructed, I'll pour in water,
but not enough to pool,

We’ll have to see
which one of us will live longer:
Charlie Brown Tree or me.
