Loose Talk about Blackbirds

The red on their wings could be liquid.

When brought to light,
the red is the color of magma;
but then when cooled,
turns black as the stone we call lava
that sun can’t melt.

Still, when blackbirds bloom in the sun,
bees traffic comes
to a halt
at the red worn on shoulders;

but ignore, unlike pollen,
the yellow they assume only cautions.

As I get older,
I find redwings sweeter than honey
and their singing
of more value than money.
