More on Blackbirds
Blackbirds talk of summer in the spring.
and talk of summer in the fall.
It has something to do with gladness.
If we had wings, perhaps we’d feel more joy;
wouldn’t focus on the weekend upcoming
and intended pleasure.
Birds’ lives are much shorter than ours,
also more fragile.
And, yet, as we know, birds sing.
They fly south to warm summer climates,
then return in spring
to the grind of raising a family.
We envy their vacations, most of all their joy.
