Ovenbird 3

His is a song I know well.
He converts continuing silence
to a living thing.

Silence is before or after,
but when before
had probably not been observed.

It is usually after the song that the void is heard.
The startling emptiness of silence
makes clear the cost
of losing something familiar.

When the voice is gone,
only loss is left over.
