So Jesus was a Baby

and Jesus died,
even as we die daily,
even by intent.

Suicide has become a norm
among our young,
so full of despair and anger.

What have we done
and what is it we are doing?
Do we even care?

Or are we so focused on money?
Have we become so crass?
Bigger houses, bigger cars, bigger debt.

Have we shut the door
through which we once welcomed the poor,
all of them our parents?

What made America great
was its open door,
become now an iron gate of hate.

That gate locks in
even greater hate among ourselves.
There’s no getting out!
