There is as much spirit in hate
as there is in prayer
and a good bit more,
since hate
rests on greater conviction;

more love in war
than love
in the average marriage;
we just outwait.

More trust is found
in a bottle
or in a pickup truck
with the rifle hung up in the back,
than is found in luck.
