The Cross
Obedience, sacrifice, love…
Yes, all of that.
But beauty?
There is no beauty.
Might as well just spit.
What you see played out on the cross
is humiliation,
performed as a public art
with participation.
Some in this see a source of great beauty.
What I see, instead,
is purposed physical torture
of a blameless man,
who is also said to be God.
So what is significant in this?
Think all the way back to Eden
and the knowledge taken
that made men like unto God.
It was not the sex, but akin to that:
the knowledge that all life must die
never knowing when.
Thus were bodies eternally linked
to sin and shame.
