The Greatest Sin

Withholding love, by far,
is the greatest sin,
since all other sins stem from it.

Greed and avarice and hate
are expressions of it.
Murder and jealousy relate.

It‘s a sin to give up on loving
because of pain.
Instead, think of love as rain
which all life needs:

even weeds
in the cracks of sidewalk,
drunks on the street.
The question is just how to love.

We must first learn how to forgive,
above all ourselves
for thinking ourselves so much better.
