Christ was sent to show forth his Father
as a God of love,
despite Jehovah’s war record.

Fully God, fully man, it is said,
but it makes you wonder:
was it God
or man being punished?

Who showed compassion?
Was it God Mary saw hanging limp
or her son,
crucified, spit upon?

Was the son human or divine
who, by his death,
stood man’s relationship to God
on its thorn-crowned head?
