Listening

Spirit will come upon us if we choose
to listen and wait for what appears.
And hearing leads to action and the pleas
of those opposed.

This spirit is

the energy that made us, is the force
we need to think and feel and so persist
as something more than mass.

There is the risk

that spirit becomes demonic. We take that risk
when failing to admit to the costs: the loss
we impose on another—the neighbor, friend,
or the person we perceive as enemy.

Spirit depends

on life as self-expression that is more than is
the companionship of a stone or what wind says
when there is no one else close.

Those who respond

may do so with doubts and questions. That is enough,
for spirit is opportunistic and reacts to doubt by making clear
doubt is the desired foundation for future growth.
