In Need and In Between
Between heaven and earth,
joy and anger,
sin and salvation,
we live our limited lives.
Between length and breadth,
height and depth,
birth and death,
we live together with questions.
We have seen no earthly salvation,
no fount of youth,
no answers
to unhappy occasions.
Trust comes as a slap in the face.
We think of sex,
abortion, prophylactics, disease;
the call of pleasure
and the quantities of cash
it takes to feed.
We barely survive by our toil.
What we need is salve
and, certainly, the oil of salvation.
Can you hear my lamentation?
Can you hear me, Lord?
