Adam

Once naked and proud in the sun,
I enjoyed the innocence that comes
from being simply an animal.

Then I ate what God had proscribed
and was shocked to learn
I no longer enjoyed my innocence.

I have learned the fee
of freedom is exile and grief,
even death of one son by the other.
