Ben Adam

Awaited and, finally, come
not what expected,
simply given to us to accept,
most of all, protect.

Still the word
that shoves forward is love,
despite frustration
that can and does wear us down;

oh yes, and fear,
at what in the offing is next,
new revelation
that washes out joy with new pain;

or crucifixion,
when we who knew him are gone.
It tests belief
and all we know of trust:
Ben Adam nailed to a cross.
