Christmas Season

The Christmas season
exploits the winter solstice,
a turning point
toward summer and, therefore, hope.

Peace, as a wish, is good as any
and, certainly, better than some,
but is not a promise.
Rainy weather must, after all,
come.

Then what should I do that is different?

Foolish claims leave no room for maneuver
in a hopeless task
that has nothing to do with weather.

The peace that everyone seeks
comes as a gift;
the response to be given is trust,
as always, against all odds

and is the quid pro quo of existence
that exists, as such,
but may not
be made available when most needed
or in size enough.
