Costly Love

Anyone who thinks love is all sugar
has never loved;
or thinks love is never harsh
needs a closer look.

Love certainly cost Jesus plenty,
as it has cost others.
Just consider the saints and the prophets:
How did they fare?

So, is this a road that you want?
To take up a cross
is, certainly, not meant as cant.

God is not your bosom buddy,
but Himself is God
and swears His presence,
if you can stand it.
