God's Silence

The silence of God is God’s essence,
guilt-ridden grief
that encompasses the death of a son.

My hunger partakes of this essence.

Like a child I tug
at the hem of God’s robe for an answer,
get no response.

My body is the form of God’s hunger,
just as my plea
is God's own essential pleading:

I am God's need.
