Songs of the Body

Songs of the body
are the songs our many selves sing
in their common effort
to consolidate a single voice.

Thus, it’s not to outsiders they sing,
but to each other
in the effort to be united
in a single voice,
a voice unique to this body.

And so with poems:
from one poet many voices,
not yet made one
at the proud beginning of the journey;

then got honed down,
in effect, to become a single chorus
with a unique sound,
thus, finally, one unified voice:
powerful and triumphant.
