Prairie Cathedrals

Grain elevators signal hope.

They reflect hard work,
give evidence
of sustaining belief.

Plains weather never offers relief:
deep freeze to drought,
spring cyclones and fall tornados.

Disaster may strike any day,
bring wind or flood;
So the mood is watchful.

Elevators are raised up in hope.
They serve as prayers.

Silos are fingers stuck up
to attract stray luck.
