you are too beautiful!

You laugh, you sing, you dance
and we don’t notice
except by chance
when something by accident
confronts us;

then are surprised
by beauty
that daily surrounds us,
that makes us blink,
astounded
that it even exists.

We have forgotten
the beauty as children we exploited
before parents decided
to protect us,
to shield from harm,
cutting off the world around us
with loving arms.
