Are You Ready for Snow?
Are you ready for snow?
Are you always happy to receive it?
Some years it doesn’t come at all,
when most desired,
especially at Christmastide.
Snow doesn’t make an announcement,
first comes with scattered flakes,
moves up, if serious, to flurries
then drifts and swells,
blotting out both success and failures.
Sometimes you can find yourself lost,
not really caring.
But then, what joy: a world refreshed and made new!
I could said: “Made flesh.”
Wouldn’t you agree?
What we want is a world made fresh,
for each a chance to start over.
For that, snow isn’t the answer.
There is, instead,
an earth wrapped in tinsel;
itself a gift,
unplanned and not always prepared for;
nonetheless a gift
that fills every crevice with joy.
Don’t quibble or second guess it.
On knees bend double.
Lie back.
Make the print of an angel.
It’s alright to cry.
Frozen tears are an offering of crystal.
You must then arise.
With your arms spread wide to the sky,
whether girl or boy,
dance your life like you’ve never felt it.
Dance your life for joy!
