In Death the Body Takes Over

In death, the body takes over.
Mind and soul let go
and follow the path of the light
when the switch turns off.

Sin, too, is a feature of body,
as we say, built in,
tinder dry
and ready for striking.

So it seems sin wins
until at least it’s recovered,
like a fish reeled in
and dropped by net
in a boat,

a boat, unseen,
but a boat man has always desired:
disembodied lust for the right,
the good,
and the beautiful:

those ancient odds
on which life and death depend:
we call it God.
