Woman in a Wheelchair

She called me names and swore
as I moved to help her.
She could sit in the rain forever
for all I cared.

Nonetheless, she taught me a lesson.

To repay one person’s kindness,
it is always best
not to press one's kindness on others.

I must first address
the prerequisite need for forgiveness,
both mine and theirs,

and pay sharp heed
to the level of that day's forgiveness
I have received.
