The Uncertainty Principle

A question is superior to an answer in the way that light
inevitably tracks back to the source,
its antecedent.

Life itself is the primary question: whether all the lives
that disperse and return to the hive
add to life's enhancing.

It takes true dancing to live and avoid daily strife
when life itself is Answer One.

We are born to the life of a gambler. The rule is chance.
Each life sets the rate and the spread
until what’s left
is simply the volume of play.

In this way we learn the intent and eventual mend
before we have learned what is broken
or perhaps can lend
what is needed before the occasion.

Observations begin in the womb:
sounds of heart and lungs and digestion.
As with a poem,
observation gives limited directions;

there is no end
where finality is finally reached in the way one mirror
sends others unending reflections.
With a dike that's breached,
what we see in all directions is but endless flood.

It’s not truth we see in a mirror, not the truth we seek
which sits hidden beyond the horizon
where our questions reach.
