Pregnancy

Creating a self
is a process
that may take years.

We carry our fetus
inside us,
our belly grows,
we alter our clothes
and our diets.

We cannot hold
our urine
as long as we used to.

Sometimes at night,
we feel movement
inside
and can't sleep.
We find ourselves
fighting for words.

It is not absurd
to need
and request a Caesarean,

to assume a knife
in skilled hands
from outside
can release us.

It is when we see
what we
as a parent only hoped:
we are finally
free.
