Tracking Snow

It's an old, perhaps primordial custom:
tracking up new snow,
this time not managed with boots,
but by making angels;

take the pose lying down on your back,
spread all limbs wide, both arms and legs,
and then close tight
as if you're attempting to fly;

so making wings with your arms
and skirts with legs,
you then, press your warm cap back
to provide a head;

thus, leaving behind a message
when you're in bed and safe and warm
and well fed

that there are children
where floor and walls may tremble;
where food is short
no house to keep them warm
and, even then, no firewood...
Snow angels remind us of this,
or, if not, then should.
