American Dream
Spots on the rose leaves.
Weeds in the lawn.
Shade trees are dying.
My children need shoes.
I can't take vacations.
Money too tight.
Working two jobs now.
No way to refuse.
I’m truly not lazy.
Must life be so tough?
Divorced now, still working,
just can't earn enough.
Where at is that freedom
I worked hard to gain:
leisure, retirement,
the old gravy train?
This is America:
No one born to lose.
Too smoggy for moonlight.
Thank God for booze.
