Bees and Lions, Lions and Bees
The lion has his mane,
the queen her drones
only one of which will serve her
before he dies.
The impregnated praying mantis
devours her mate;
her bite starts ejaculation;
which may be the case
with some spiders.
What then of the human male
and his vaunted cock?
He, too, has pride
and, in some ways, enjoys being eaten.
Not all are Right-to-Lifers, not all love porn.
Not all oppose abortion.
Not all see guns
as the ultimate provider of power.
In the meantime, wives
are taking over professions,
formerly men's jobs
in medicine, education, and law;
have stormed the beaches of Congress
where the bloody fight
is all about rights and ceiling glass.
Looking back now from the distant future,
what do we see:
King Lion has been moved to a zoo
where he still can roar,
but, so far, commits no harm.
The insects, too, have evolved
so that males are now smaller,
only females sting.
Human males are still allowed guns
to sustain their pride
but are issued no ammunition;
their tales are of rapine and killing,
of boasts and lies,
all remembered as long ago happened,
sometime done to wives.
