We are always talking of love,
but should not forget
justice, remonstrance, and debt
also need restraint
in protection of the weak and the poor.

 Earth is not yet heaven.

 Society, as a rule, is unruly 
and requires force 
applied to some members of families
and those of a common faith,
sometimes far more.

 Human love is often estranging,
or converts to hate
at the sudden flip of a coin,
declarations of love unconvincing
in the light of day,
just as justice seen wrongly applied.

 It is said “By their acts, ye shall know them;” 
and, of course, it’s true,
when acts of love are unloving,
and those who administer justice
are themselves unjust.
