Set Apart

If you’re set apart by anything,
it makes you different.
Color of skin or the fact that you limp
marks you as different,
even to yourself.

You are helpless to do much about it,
so remain apart
from others, including friends.
You always leave
before they move in.

Any good you have done disappears.

You retire or try something else,
to express your worth
at least as you’re able to perceive it.

 No one to blame.
Only yourself that feels the shame
and all of Heaven watching.
