Mankind

Mankind is overrated.

Man has nests called houses,
someone else is
hired to build.

Though some men run,
the majority sits in chairs
at home and in the office,

or on wooden benches
in the park lest he be tempted
to walk apace in the dark.

It has been known
for a man
to live and die in a chair.

Though some men swim,
man travels mostly by boat
where there are no bridges;
and in planes,
relying once again on loud motors
leaving oily trails.

Men have books and newspapers,
but except for sports
and weather, do not wish to know
of the world.

Entertainment is the name of the game.

Why they stay alive,
given what they consider "alive,"
is a dead man's joke.

Man makes, does not gather his food.
