People
So many people I have known
and a few avoided:
some loved, some I couldn’t respect
who were sure they had candled the moon like a chicken’s egg,
found the gold yolk rotten.
Most are gone now, a few remembered;
some faces without names
and vice versa;
where it was once that I knew them
and, also, when;
those who positively influenced my life
still remain in memory alive,
passing judgement on my pride,
excuses made,
praising positive things I’ve done.
Reviewed are the good and the bad:
blessings, regrets…
well knowing my life can’t be changed:
things I wished had never happened,
mistakes I made...
On the whole, I am satisfied:
some things done well:
loved hard, rejected hate, owned my mistakes;
but still can hope,
(if by chance, there’s a “next” occasion)
to correct former half-hearted measures:
needs I failed to fill,
supported unproven suspicions,
acted in pride,
and, then, when especially needed,
did not love well.
