Storm Windows

Storm windows and double-glass panes
have wiped out the artist Jack Frost
who in winter was a main attraction.

He painted ice on kitchen windows
where steam produced by cooking
would freeze inside

creating scenes of fantastic colors and design
that I could touch
with fingers and sometimes tongue
and dream of fantastic countries.

They did not last long, so by midday
had completely vanished when the sun had warmed
the air and Jack’s art had melted.
