Vulnerability

We teach our sons to be strong,
assertive, bold
and never to show themselves weak.

They learn quickly how to be abusive,
to not back off,
proclaim themselves right forever.

We don’t teach the value of restraint,
demonstrate the fact
that being vulnerable is a virtue;

that confessions of mistakes and forgiveness
are the quid-pro-quo
of honesty, trust and good faith;

that humble pie
can be a virtuous dessert

more delicious than a pizza pie.
