Atrocities

Murder is encouraged in war 
as are torture, rape, and isolation. 
Lying 
is expected behavior. 

Such is America’s new normal,
displayed and explained on the news 
every day’s refrain. 

This cancer has metastasized abroad
along with ballooning debt. 
No longer can America be proud, 
cannot stand tall, 
to her neck in contradictions.

Like an aging whore caught in a bidding war, 
both respect and pleasure are absent. 
A penny only goes as far 
as dissatisfied clients 
can spit. 

Thus is America. 

America’s enterprise is money. 
She ignores the law, 
grovels in discrimination,
takes advantage of the ignorant, 
ignores the poor,
and celebrates her status in blatant lies. 

Otherwise, no hope, no honor, no pride.
The dream has died.
What is left is shame
and not another to blame.

Unforgiving, the world moves on.
