Disgust
Disgust is an invitation that offers choice:
opportunity to walk away from
or take corrective action.
Not an easy task,
whatever the circumstance or need.
Start a fire where permitted,
let commitments burn;
consider the hopes of all peoples
who, each in turn,
have fought for the right to be free;
have not given in to despair,
but continue fighting.
Ask yourself whether fighting is enough,
and what can be done
in hearts and minds to resist.
Even gladly join
any hopeful gathering of people
of whatever stripe:
young and old, male and female, gay and straight.
Why should it matter,
especially if trust is in tatters?
Adjust your concept of God
whom we say is love,
but inappropriately consider male,
refer to always as “He;”
thus, are caught in a contradiction
that mocks our faith.
Love is not a test,
but is the capacity for trust: a must
for undertakings protecting life.
