Fig Jam

Fig leaves burst forth in a whirl of greenish-yellow,
then turn dark green.
They provide a special summer event:
the making of jam that’s sealed in jars
and given to the neighbors.

But let me tell you, then,
when snow’s a threat and winter winds are blowing,
there’s nothing like a breakfast
of toast and jam:
fig jam of your own making.
