Love

Love costs, whether given or received,
and is never cheap.

Some giving may be deemed discrete,
even a bargain;

and if cost seems worth the effect,
pain is dismissed,

or money is exchanged 
without conviction.

But, if giving of self is involved,
it’s a different story,

having hallmarks, you might think,
of drug addiction.
