Introspection
Introspection is a form of meditation.
Both require time
as well as an inward focus;
most of all the ability to listen
to yourself
and whatever you’re thinking
without distraction:
what you do
when you’re writing a poem.
It’s a simple action, indeed, no action at all:
what you do is wait
for whatever it is that will come:
a poem, a conviction, a reminder:
what you failed to do;
or did that requires correction.
It is not your call
since it comes not of your volition;
it’s a gift, a presence:
a prescience whether old or brand new
that comes from somewhere inside or out
or for all you know
is muse or psyche or God.
It doesn’t matter,
so long as you know it’s available
beyond your will
and so may be only received
as a gift
by those who are willing to listen
and also heed,
being, as they are, in need.
