How do Evangelicals Roar

Like a hungry lion
that has turned to humanity for food
although there’s little meat on its bones
and is too stringy 
to be enjoyed as steak.

It’s a different state
than the one we are used to observing
where humans weigh
considerably more than they should
what with fat and drinks

and eating more than they need 
not focused on strength of spirit,
but weakness,
especially faults of their neighbors
who do not conform 

to strict evangelical standards.
Theirs is definitely a tight knit world 
underlined by hate. 

They concentrate on themselves:
no “ifs” or “buts.”

While claiming concern for others,
show little love: 
more often contempt:

for Methodists, Presbyterians, Episcopalians,  
Catholics and the Brethren. 
They are also well-practiced haters
of modern Jews, 
one of whom, 

before ever Christianity existed,
died for their sins,
according to their own witness, 
thus bought for them 
forgiveness and eternal life.
