Faces

This world is made up of faces.
Each face has at least two eyes
and skin in a mix of colors.
Some may wear hair.

And faces are connected to persons.

Some have a dog.
Each face has its own devotions:
food, sex or God.
We can see which faith in their eyes.

Some are old, some are children, some are clean;
some combed, some shaven.
Some eyes like a house abandoned,
hard enough to kill.

All persons, we admit, live and die.
Some we meet, pass by.
Usually, we are able to avoid them.

Glued to our mirrors--to selfies, prejudice and fear,
our years go by
as we adjust to changing traditions.
Past life a blur.

But always the changing faces,
some young, some old,
some with dogs, all with joys and sorrows,
seeking lives they hope will be better.

One head, two eyes.
